I would like to first off thank Lyman lures for creating the lures necessary to catch not only “big” fish out on Okanagan Lake but even the smaller fish still want a piece of the action. I had recently entered to fish in the 2013 Kelowna winter fishing derby. Big winds and 6-7 foot waves were dampening our spirits and chances of catching fish. We trolled bucktail flies around for about 4 hours without so much as a bite and then decided to switch over to Lyman plugs. 15 minutes later we had a fish on. unfortunately we lost it at the net. (mainly thanks to the wind and waves) It looked like it might have been a contender for 3rd place. With a couple of hours left in the derby we decided to troll towards home into the oncoming waves. Time was running out in the derby and bang, my rod starts bouncing, line peeling off the reel. Fish on!! I grabbed the rod and could feel a big fish. It was 3:10 in the afternoon and the derby was over at 3:30. I continued fighting the fish hard as time was becoming a factor. Finally the fish seemed ready to cooperate and I pulled hard leading him towards the net. My partner was ready with the net, I gave one more hard pull and all of a sudden my Lyman plug (#69 shazam 4″) came flying over my head. I immediately said “did you get him”?? He pulled the net out of the water and there it was a nice 29 and 7/8″ rainbow approx. 15 lbs. I was shaking from the action. The derby officials confirmed our catch with less than 5 minutes to go. Turned out to be the derby winner. We drove to Kelowna to pick up our cheque for $2,000.00 and enjoy our victory. This was of course my best day ever but have caught lots and lots of fish on Okanagan Lake with Lyman plugs and would recommend them to anybody going fishing out there. Good fishing and may the plugs be with you.
