Okanagan Lake

Home of the legendary lake monster Ogopogo,Lake Okanagan is the largest lake in the region and is located close to the centre of British Columbia's beautiful Okanagan Valley. Vernon, Kelowna,Westbank, Peachland, Summerland, Naramata, and Penticton are the communities that lie along the shores of 130 km/80 mi long Okanagan Lake. This lake is well-suited to trolling and can yield large rainbow trout( up to 20Lbs) as well the lake supports a good quantity of Land-locked Salmon( Kokanee) , Ling cod,and the Elusive Sturgeon .Max depth of 232 m, average depth of 76 m. Lake Okanagan contains three basins: North, Central and Southern. Connects to Skaha Lake thru the Okanagan River. Surrounded by semiarid hills and plateaus, summer water temperatures reach 24 degrees Celsius (78 degrees Fahrenheit). There are three developed beaches on Lake Okanagan at Kickininee Provincial Park: Kickininee, Pyramid, and Soorimpt (which features a boat launch). Take Hwy 97 about 9 miles (14.5 km) north of Penticton.

BC Highway 97 takes you along the shoreline from Penticton to Kelowna, travelling through many communities. Along the way there are numerous access spots leading to beautiful sandy beaches, resorts and campsites.
